The primary role of the Mechanic is to keep a variety of equipment and vehicles operating throughout the season. Equipment includes large diesel equipment such as a Piston Bulley, Tucker Sno-Cats, Prinoth/Camoplast BR350, CAT 950H, Hammar Container Lifter, Forklift and other small equipment such as skidoos and snow blowers.

Employment Structure
This is a seasonal contractor position. Mechanics are employed by Polar Services, Inc. (Panama) and assigned to work with Antarctic Logistics & Expeditions (ALE) at Union Glacier. ALE oversees recruitment, onboarding, training, and daily operational supervision.

Mechanics generally work from November to January.

Duties and Responsibilities:
- Must have professional training and previous experience working as a diesel mechanic.
- Preferred mechanic experience in a cold weather environment.
- Responsible the mechanical needs for a variety of heavy diesel equipment used by the mechanical services team to include the maintenance, service, re-commissioning, troubleshooting, and other needs as it related to keeping the equipment operating.
- Assists with running the workshop and garage tent.
- Assisting in vehicles support such as care, maintenance, service, maintain logs, operate if needed, and prepare for deployment of field vehicles.
