Job Title:
Senior Geotechnical Lead, Tailings Management
Location:
Onsite

Salary:
$120,000- $150,000 CAD
The Client:
The client is seeking a senior geotechnical engineering consultant to support the design, assessment, and governance of tailings and mine waste storage facilities. This role focuses on geotechnical performance, seismic safety, and life cycle risk management for mining projects across South America.
What you will achieve in this role:
- Lead advanced geotechnical field and laboratory investigations, including drilling, insitu testing, and material characterization for tailings and mine waste facilities
- Perform static and dynamic liquefaction analyses and seismic performance assessments of tailings storage facilities, dry stacking facilities, waste rock dumps, and heap leach pads
- Conduct site response and numerical modeling using advanced geotechnical software (PLAXIS and/or FLAC2D/3D), including the application of advanced constitutive soil models
- Develop geotechnical design recommendations, performance criteria, and risk mitigation measures for operating, closure, and post closure conditions
- Support integrated tailings management programs in alignment with the General Industry Standard on Tailings Management (GISTM)
- Prepare, review, and maintain tailings governance and safety documentation, including OMS manuals, risk registers, emergency response plans, and technical disclosure materials
- Interface with Engineers of Record, Independent Tailings Review Boards, and auditors
- Mentor junior engineers and contribute to continuous improvement of internal technical capabilities
What you must bring to this role:
- Bachelor’s degree in Civil, Mining,
or Geological Engineering; postgraduate degree in Geotechnical Engineering preferred
- Minimum 15 years of experience in geotechnical engineering related to tailings, mine waste, or heap leach facilities
- Strong background in tailings material behavior, seismic analysis, and liquefaction assessment
- Proven experience with PLAXIS and/or FLAC numerical modeling tools
- In depth knowledge of tailings dam safety, risk management, and international best practices including GISTM
- Professional engineering licensure or eligibility in Chile
- Ability to work in Spanish and review technical documentation translated from English
- Willingness to travel regionally and internationally
