Job Description: Automotive Sales Representative

Position Overview

An Automotive Sales Representative, also known as a Car Salesperson or Auto Sales Consultant, is responsible for selling new and pre-owned vehicles to customers while delivering an exceptional buying experience. This role involves guiding customers through the entire sales process—from initial contact and needs assessment to test drives, negotiation, financing coordination, and final delivery .

Key Responsibilities

Customer Engagement & Sales Process

- Greet and Assist Customers: Welcome customers arriving at the dealership, understand their preferences and needs, and recommend suitable vehicle options from the inventory .
- Conduct Test Drives: Accompany customers on test drives, demonstrating vehicle features, performance, and technology to highlight benefits .
- Needs Assessment: Interview customers to identify their requirements, budget, and intended vehicle use to match them with the most appropriate car .
- Negotiate and Close Sales: Negotiate pricing, trade-in values, and financing terms; overcome objections; and finalize sales agreements and purchase contracts .
- Finance Coordination: Collaborate with the finance department to determine financing options and assist customers with ownership options .

Prospecting & Lead Management

- Lead Generation: Identify potential clients through research, networking, referrals, and cold-calling .
- Follow-Up: Contact past customers to ensure satisfaction, cultivate repeat business, and generate referrals .
- Internet Inquiry Management: Respond to online customer inquiries promptly and professionally; manage lead data through CRM systems .

Product Knowledge & Administration

- Maintain Product Expertise: Stay informed about vehicle makes, models, features, warranties, and market trends; understand competitor offerings .
- Complete Documentation: Prepare all sales or lease paperwork, verify credit applications, and ensure accurate records for inventory processing .
- Inventory Management:



Monitor stock availability, ensure vehicles are clean and properly displayed, and maintain showroom orderliness .

Sales Targets & Team Collaboration

- Achieve Sales Goals: Meet or exceed monthly, quarterly, and annual sales targets set by management .
- Team Collaboration: Work with other sales team members and departments to ensure a seamless customer experience .
- Ongoing Training: Participate in sales meetings and training sessions to enhance product knowledge and sales skills .

Qualifications & Requirements

Experience & Education

- High school diploma or equivalent (college degree in Business or related field preferred) .
- Previous sales experience in automotive, retail, real estate, hospitality, or other commission-based roles is strongly preferred .
- Fresh graduates may be considered for some positions .

- Communication: Excellent verbal and written communication skills; ability to build rapport and maintain customer relationships .
- Negotiation: Strong ability to negotiate pricing, trade-ins, and financing terms effectively .
- Customer Focus: Proven ability to deliver exceptional customer service and maintain high Customer Satisfaction Index (CSI) ratings .
- Self-Motivation: Goal-oriented, resilient, and capable of working independently in a fast-paced, performance-driven environment .
- Organization: Good time management, multitasking, and follow-through skills .

Licenses & Certifications

- Valid driver's license with a clean driving record .
- Authorization to work in the country of employment .
- Ability to pass pre-employment background checks, MVR checks, drug tests, and credit reports .
- Some regions require specific motor vehicle salesperson certifications (e.g., OMVIC in Ontario, VSA in British Columbia) .

Preferred Qualifications

- Bilingual or multilingual communication skills .
- Familiarity with CRM systems and lead management tools .
- Knowledge of automotive products, inventory management, and retail math .

Job Types: Full-time, Part-time

Pay: $274,041 - $1,109,748 per month

Work Location: In person
