The Role
Supervise an administrative team of secretaries and administrative clerks and to provide a comprehensive administrative support to a team of clinicians, enabling clinicians to operate effectively and efficiently. Ensure the work of the administrative team is carried out in accordance with NHS Lanarkshire’s standard operating procedures.
Take primary responsibility for organising theatre schedules for your speciality (or specialities) to make optimum use of the available capacity. All work should be carried out in accordance with standard operating procedures (including waiting time guarantees for patients).
In This Key Role, You Will
- Organise staff rotas to ensure that leave is taken in a structured fashion across the team, maintaining an appropriate level of service.
- Allocate daily work to ensure a prompt service is maintained
- Timetable consultant use of facilities (eg theatres), taking account of their job plans, annual leave etc.
- Schedule patients in line with waiting list policies and the availability of appropriate clinical time and facilities/equipment. Liaise with theatre staff to book any specialist equipment required.
What You'll Bring
- SVQ level 3 qualification (or equivalent experience) plus at least 2 years experience as a medical secretary
- Comprehensive knowledge and understanding of medical terminology
- Evidence of effective team working and dealing with change
- Evidence of good communication skills with patients, clinicians and colleagues
