Title: School Nurse - RN

Location: Ben Franklin Middle School

Objectives:

Facilitate positive student responses to normal development; promote health and safety; intervene with vigente and potential health problems; provide case management services; and actively collaborate with others to build student and family capacity for adaptation, self-management, self-advocacy, and learning.

Responsible to:

Director of Health Services and Consultative Role to the Building Principal

Qualifications:
- Valid Indiana License as Registered Nurse
- Bachelor of Science in Nursing preferred
- Current CPR certification
- Computer skills required
- Physical ability to perform the essential functions of the job.
- Experience as a RN in related work environments.
- Ability to work independently as the sole health care provider in the building.

To apprise, promote, and protect the health and well-being of students and school staff, thereby enabling each to fully benefit from the learning and work environment.

Essential Functions:




- Plan with Health Services Director and the building Principal to implement the health program for the building.
- Collaborates with community agencies, health professionals, and staff to identify the health needs of students and staff to facilitate school and community planning and interventions.
- Delivery and supervision of care for sick and /or injured students or staff.
- Implementation of state mandated screenings. Advise parents of significant findings that need attention and assist them in planning for appropriate care.
- Monitoring of student health status, including documented immunizations, health alerts, and health care plans.
- Health education and counseling in areas related to, but not limited to, personal health and safety.
- Implementation of school health promotion and disease prevention programs.
- First-aid training and coordination of school based volunteer Emergency Response Teams.
