Regional Context

The World Bank Group serves 30 client countries in the Latin America and Caribbean Region (LCR). Clients range from large, fast-growing middle-income countries to IDA countries, small Caribbean states, and one fragile state. Despite immense resources, dynamic societies, and an average annual per capita income of around $4,000, deep inequalities persist in most countries of the region, and nearly a quarter of the population lives in poverty. The Bank’s strategy in LCR focuses on five pillars:
- Stimulating growth and improving competitiveness
- Reducing poverty and inequality
- Ensuring governments and institutions work for the people
- Providing a platform to address global issues (climate change, gender, trade, disease, migration)
- Reducing risk, whether from extreme weather events, climate change, crime and violence, or other threats

Country Unit and Position Context

The WBG’s priorities in Chile are:
- Supporting the Chilean governmen
