Project Cost Engineer
Position: Project Cost Engineer
Location: Calama, Chile
Rotation: 8 weeks on / 2 weeks off
Accommodation: Provided
Flights & Transportation: Provided
Start Date: ASAP
Duration: Long-term project assignment The Project Cost Engineer provides project management and construction management support, cost and schedule analysis, reporting, and general project controls support. This contract role is suited to a detail-oriented project controls professional who can evaluate complex issues, validate progress and costs, and help teams identify practical corrective actions in a fast-paced capital project environment.
Job Duties
Project Controls and Analysis
- Provide guidance, direction, and specialized assistance to resolve difficult project controls issues using industry knowledge, innovative approaches, and review of engineering alternatives.
- Analyze, evaluate, and forecast project status against the established baseline schedule; identify potential construction issues and impacts and recommend corrective actions.
- Assess the cost and schedule impacts of design or construction changes, process improvements, requests for information, and differing site conditions.
- Estimate material, equipment, and labor quantities and costs to validate project estimates, change orders, and scope changes through review of drawings, sketches, calculations, and related documentation.
- Identify out-of-scope changes during design reviews and document quantity variances using material take-offs from design documents.
- Validate reported progress percentages against established rules of credit through spot checks of design documentation and construction progress.
Engineering and Construction Coordination
- Apply engineering, procurement, and construction terminology, concepts, and relationships to the scope of work while supporting adherence to safety and quality standards.
- Review and process engineering submittals, track progress, and coordinate reviews with the project manager, project team members, and other stakeholders as directed.
- Analyze survey reports, maps, drawings, blueprints, aerial photography,
and topographical or geologic data to support project planning.
- Review contractor equipment logs, timesheets, supplier invoices, and contracts to confirm equipment and personnel are utilized as specified.
- Review contractor schedules for accuracy and alignment with the master schedule; evaluate design sets and other project documents to confirm milestones, sequencing, and schedule compliance.
Change Management and Reporting
- Assist with processing project change notices and reporting changes through the Client’s change management system.
- Assist with compilation of weekly, monthly, and quarterly project reports.
- Perform other duties as required.
Job Requirements
Education and Experience
- High school diploma or GED and eleven (11) years of experience in engineering, construction, project controls, or a business-related field, including at least six (6) years in a project controls leadership role; or
- Bachelor’s degree in Engineering, Construction Management, Business, or a related field and seven (7) years of construction management experience, including at least four (4) years in a project controls leadership role.
Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities
- Proficiency in Microsoft Word, Excel, and Outlook.
- Strong written and verbal communication skills.
- Ability to manage multiple priorities in a fast-paced project environment.
- Fluency in English.
- Working knowledge of construction methodology, engineering documentation, cost forecasting, schedule analysis, and project change control.
Preferred Experience
- Experience with project management systems such as Primavera, Aconex, EcoSys, and SAP.
Role Scope
- Works on moderately complex issues and typically implements solutions through individual effort.
- Collaborates primarily within the department or work group, with limited interaction with external colleagues.
- Works under frequent supervision with limited latitude to set objectives, priorities, and timelines for the assigned area of work.
- No budgetary responsibility and no direct management responsibility for people, functions, projects, or programs.

Specific vision abilities required by this job include close vision, distance vision and the ability to adjust focus.
