Mining and Metals:
Increasing production of critical minerals provides key components of clean energy technologies, from wind turbines to batteries. Job Summary
The position will be responsible for assisting in the integration of ES&H; requirements into planning documents from ES&H; requirements into design, Constructability workshops, ES&H; plans that are required for construction and project schedules. This role has the technical responsibility of interpreting complex requirements, evaluating and applying appropriate safety engineering principles, maintaining compliance with the legal ES&H; requirements, established by the client and the ES&H; standards and procedures committed by the participating companies of the study and that are under the responsibility of Bechtel. Provides ES&H; technical assistance to other professionals assigned to the project and other functions.
Major Responsibilities
- Coordinating a wide variety of Environmental, Safety, and Health (ES&H;) disciplines to facilitate implementation of Bechtel's ES&H; program and ES&H; Management System, including aiding compliance with Bechtel's ES&H; standards, applicable regulatory requirements, and contractual commitments.
- Assisting in the development, implementation, and maintenance of programs, systems, and procedures necessary for the safety and health of employees and protection of the environment and communities.
- Maintaining ES&H; databases, inclusive of incident events, audit/assessment findings, and corrective actions.
- Performing statistical analysis of ES&H; data to identify performance trends and contributing factors as part of continuous improvement and makes recommendations accordingly.
- Identifying and coordinating unique software systems and electronic innovation used by ES&H; personnel.
- Leading teams in conducting risk assessment, studies, mitigation planning, and monitoring in response to ES&H; issues.
- Preparing communications, writes reports, and prepares documents for program execution and records retention.
- Coordinating incident notifications, leading investigations, and preparing incident investigation reports.
- Recommending and implementing improvements in processes, procedures, and work activities to minimize hazard potential.
- Participating in and may lead employee training, emergency preparedness, and quality assurance programs.
- Coordinating ES&H; recognition programs.
- Researching moderately complex issues and provides regulatory interpretation and technical advice.
- Providing support to ES&H; field and office personnel, inclusive of all ES&H; disciplines.
Education And Experience Requirements
- Requires a professional degree related to the environment, safety, health and 8 to 10 years of relevant work experience or 12 to 14 years of relevant work experience.
- Qualified Occupational Health and Safety Professional (Experto en Prevención de Riesgos), with valid accreditation from the competent Chilean authority.
Required Knowledge And Skills
- Knowledge of ISO 45001 and ISO 14001, applicable Chilean regulations and ES&H; management practices in mining and construction environments.
- Ability to identify hazards, assess operational risks and verify critical controls, particularly those associated with batch plant operations, mobile equipment and hazardous energy.
- Ability to conduct field inspections, identify deviations, support incident investigations and implement corrective and preventive actions.
- Demonstrated ability to collaborate with multidisciplinary teams, communicate effectively with field supervisors and contractors, and promote workforce engagement.
- Ability to monitor ES&H; performance, analyze trends, track corrective actions and support continuous improvement.
- Proven ES&H; experience in mining or large-scale construction projects, preferably involving industrial facilities or batch plant operations.
- Previous experience at MEL/BHP and/or Bechtel, with familiarity with their ES&H; standards, operational requirements and safety culture. Desirable but not mandatory.
- Proven ability to work effectively within multidisciplinary teams, engage contractors and field supervisors, and demonstrate proactive safety leadership in complex operational environments.
