Vice President of Regional Business & Market Expansion

Location: United States

Employment Type: Full-Time

Work Arrangement: Remote / Hybrid / On-site

Reports To: Chief Executive Officer

Executive Mandate The Vice President of Regional Business & Market Expansion determines where the company can grow geographically and builds the commercial and operating conditions needed to establish a durable presence in selected markets. The role combines market-entry planning, customer development, and launch coordination, giving leadership a clear view of expansion costs, timing, and likely returns.

Market Selection and Entry Decisions

Build a regional opportunity map using customer demand, competitor presence, distribution access, operating costs, local requirements, and the company's ability to serve each market.

Rank potential territories by commercial readiness, strategic value, investment needs, and time to sustainable revenue.

Recommend whether to enter, deepen investment in, test, defer, or exit a territory, explaining the evidence and trade-offs behind each recommendation.

Prepare market-entry briefs covering target customers, route to market, expected sales cycle, pricing, staffing, vendor needs, launch costs, risks, and decision milestones.

Build Local Commercial Traction

Develop territory plans defining target accounts, customer segments, referral networks, channel partners, outreach priorities, and quarterly objectives.

Establish relationships with regional customers, distributors, service providers, industry groups, and organizations that can improve market access.

Maintain an opportunity register with qualification criteria, relationship owners, estimated value, decision process, next action, and realistic timing.

Make Expansion Operationally Ready

Coordinate a readiness review with operations, finance, legal, marketing, product, technology, and customer service before each launch, as appropriate.

Confirm that the proposed market can be served within approved service standards, staffing capacity, technology capabilities, budgets, and contractual commitments.

Create an implementation plan for each approved expansion, including accountable owners, dependencies, launch dates, spending limits, and acceptance criteria.

Resolve cross-functional blockers and escalate decisions that exceed delegated authority or threaten launch commitments.

Regional Economics and Resource Stewardship

Partner with finance to develop territory forecasts, launch budgets, expense assumptions, revenue scenarios, and expected contribution margins.

Compare options using consistent measures such as entry cost, time to first revenue, acquisition effort, expected customer value where measurable, and downside exposure.

Recommend changes to staffing, marketing spend, channel investment, or launch timing when evidence no longer supports the original plan.

Leadership Rhythm and Reporting The VP provides concise, decision-oriented reporting rather than activity summaries alone. Reports should show what has changed in each priority market, what evidence supports the outlook, which decisions are needed, and who owns the next action.

The role establishes a recurring review cadence that includes:

Monthly review of pipeline quality, forecast changes, customer activity, market signals, and launch issues.

Quarterly review of regional performance, investment efficiency, strategic assumptions, and resource needs.

The VP may direct regional business development and recommend resource allocation within approved plans. Significant investments, new contractual obligations, material budget changes, and changes to corporate strategy require the relevant executive or board approval.

First-Year Outcomes

By the end of the first year, the VP should have:

Produced a ranked regional opportunity assessment with evidence-based recommendations and clear entry criteria.

Established plans for approved priority territories, with named owners, milestones, budgets, and commercial targets.

Launched or advanced selected market initiatives with readiness checks and post-launch reviews.

Recommended which markets to scale, refine, pause, or exit based on observed performance and updated assumptions.

Measures of Effectiveness

Performance will be evaluated against agreed targets and market conditions,

emphasizing sustainable expansion rather than raw activity volume. Relevant measures may include:

Revenue or gross contribution generated in priority territories.

Progress from qualified opportunity to signed customer or partner agreement.

Forecast accuracy and reliability of market-entry assumptions.

Achievement of launch milestones within approved budgets and timelines.

Cost and time required to establish a functioning commercial presence.

Customer and partner retention, service readiness, and quality of local relationships.

Timely identification of underperformance and implementation of corrective actions.

Candidate Profile

20+ years of progressive professional experience in regional management, market development, business development, commercial operations, sales leadership, or a related field.

Experience assessing geographic opportunities and converting market research into practical entry plans and commercial activity.

Strong capability in territory planning, pipeline management, negotiation, customer development, and channel strategy.

Ability to interpret budgets, forecasts, cost assumptions, and commercial performance while accounting for operational constraints.

Track record of coordinating cross-functional teams and moving initiatives from proposal through launch and review.

Clear executive communication, sound judgment, and confidence presenting recommendations when information is incomplete or stakeholders disagree.

Experience in technology, financial services, investment, professional services, or other multi-market businesses is useful; specific industry experience is not mandatory when transferable skills are strong.

Compensation and Working Conditions

Compensation will reflect experience, role scope, and company policy. The package may include a competitive base salary, performance-based incentives, equity or long-term incentives where applicable, health, dental and vision insurance, retirement benefits, paid time off, company holidays, professional development, and reimbursement for approved business travel.

This is a full-time U.S.-based executive position with remote, hybrid, or on-site arrangements depending on business needs. Travel may be required for market assessments, customer meetings, partner negotiations, and launch reviews.
