Recreation Department

Salary Range: $98,707 -137,390

General Duties and Responsibilities:

This position is responsible for planning, organizing and directing recreational and athletic programs, recreational facilities and parks, and community events for the City. Duties include managing both full and part-time staff (including seasonal employees) in the City’s recreation facilities.

Knowledge, Skills, and Abilities:

Must have considerable knowledge of parks & recreation management and administration principles and practices, including recreational programing and athletics, facilities, and equipment, and facility management methods. Must have the ability to plan, organize, and supervise the activities of Center Directors in individual facilities as well as other subordinates. Must be able to deal firmly and tactfully with the public and maintain effective working relationships with other departments and their employees. Must have good written and oral communication skills; computer and budgeting skills; and maintain and prepare accurate records and reports. Requirements:





Minimum completion of a four-year degree in recreation management, exercise physiology, or related field and considerable experience of an increasingly responsible nature to include at least five years of supervision in organized recreation work or an equivalent combination of education and experience. Valid NC Driver’s License. Certified Park and Recreation Professional (CPRP) preferred. City residency required within 12 months from date of hire.
