EHS Coordinator (Jefe EHS) – Data Centers in Operation | Chile | Team Lead | Client-Facing
This role is not for a construction safety professional. It is for someone who has already kept a critical facility safe while it could not be shut down.
One of the largest data center operators in Latin America, with three sites in operation in Santiago and a second 150 MW campus under development, is looking for the person who will lead EHS in Chile.
The role reports to the Regional EHS Director, leads a Risk Prevention Engineer and a Risk Prevention Technician, and is the country’s main safety reference before clients, management and the authorities.
The problem you will solve
Every maintenance window in a data center is high-risk work on a system that cannot be turned off: medium voltage, UPS rooms and battery banks, generators and fuel, chillers and refrigerants, clean-agent fire suppression.
Your job is to make sure those windows are executed with zero serious accidents and zero impact on service continuity, with the Golden Rules met 100% of the time, while general clients audit you against their own standards.
What you will do
- Lead risk identification and control for preventive, corrective and emergency maintenance across all sites.
- Review and approve in advance procedures, risk analyses and high-risk work permits: LOTO and arc flash, work at height, confined spaces, lifting, hot work and hazardous substances.
- Own Management of Change (MOC) and the coordination of maintenance windows.
- Prepare teams for corporate high-risk audits, client audits, certification audits and mutualidad audits, and close action plans with verifiable evidence.
- Be the EHS counterpart for clients: their audits, periodic meetings, requirements, and the work they or their vendors perform inside the site.
- Lead and develop your team with field routines and consistent technical criteria across sites.
- Control contractor accreditation and performance, fulfil the principal’s obligations under Ley 20.123 and DS 76,
and act as the counterpart before Dirección del Trabajo, SEREMI de Salud, SUSESO and the mutualidad.
- Manage environmental compliance: hazardous waste, fuels, refrigerants, emissions and monthly reporting.
- Consolidate and present EHS indicators to management and clients.
What we need to see, no exceptions
- Minimum 10 years in risk prevention, at least 5 in critical facilities in operation: data centers, telecom, power generation or transmission, industrial plants or mining.
- At least 3 years leading risk prevention professionals or technicians.
- Proven experience as the EHS counterpart to corporate or multinational clients.
- Command of electrical risk in medium and low voltage: NFPA 70E, arc flash, LOTO, PPE categories.
- Ley 16.744, DS 44, DS 594, DS 18, Ley 20.123 and DS 76, Ley Karin, DS 43 and DS 148, ISO 45001 and ISO 14001.
- Intermediate to advanced English. You will report to the region and sit with clients who do not speak Spanish.
This search is not for you if
- Your experience is mainly in construction sites, with no facilities in operation.
- You have never been the direct counterpart of a client that audits against its own standard.
- You have not led people in risk prevention.
- You are not available for night or weekend maintenance windows, or for emergencies outside working hours.
What we will ask you in the interview
Three real cases of yours, in detail: a high-risk electrical job you managed end to end, a relevant client audit and how you prepared for it, and a work stoppage you held firm on in front of operations. If you do not have them, this is not the role.
What the role offers
- Direct contract with the operator, probationary period then indefinite.
- Base salary of CLP 2,300,000 net per month.
- Corporate profit sharing of up to 7 monthly salaries per year.
- Multinational benefits package.
- Direct line to the Regional EHS Director, with exposure to headquarters and global clients.
- You set the safety standard for the most relevant digital infrastructure in the country.
