This position is listed on behalf of a partner company, which manages all applications and next steps. Our partner is looking for a Software Engineer (Edge - Devices & Mobile) based in Chile.
We are looking for an experienced Software Engineer with strong Rust expertise to help build and scale a sophisticated, cross-platform device infrastructure. In this role, you will develop and maintain a reliable peer runtime across Windows, Android, and Linux, with future expansion to macOS. You will work at the intersection of systems engineering, mobile platforms, networking, and distributed infrastructure. A key focus will be bringing advanced capabilities to mobile devices while ensuring seamless performance, security, and reliability across a globally distributed fleet. You will collaborate closely with senior engineers and cross-functional teams to solve complex technical challenges. This is an opportunity to take significant ownership of critical infrastructure, influence architectural decisions, and contribute to innovative large-scale data collection systems.
Accountabilities:
- Design, develop, and maintain a cross-platform Rust peer runtime supporting Windows, Android, and Linux, with future compatibility for macOS.
- Manage process lifecycles, background execution, networking, automatic updates, and operational stability across diverse and unmanaged hardware environments.
- Lead the expansion of the platform to Android devices using NDK and JNI, addressing foreground services, battery optimization, mobile network constraints, and integration with real and emulated device environments.
- Integrate native networking technologies, including Chromium's network stack (Cronet and C++), and browserless HTTP clients into well-structured, reliable Rust libraries.
- Work with native operating system APIs and foreign function interfaces (FFI), ensuring safe memory management, ownership, and cross-language interoperability.
- Collect and analyze hardware and operating system signals, including TCP, TLS, and HTTP fingerprints, to improve network realism and support collaboration with browser and anti-detection engineering teams.
- Develop comprehensive device-level observability and performance metrics, monitoring uptime, bandwidth consumption, device availability, drop‑off rates, and task success rates.
- Expand peer capabilities to support additional workloads, including CAPTCHA solving and browser rendering, while maintaining strong security boundaries around untrusted content and environments.
- Participate in on‑call rotations, investigate production incidents, conduct post‑mortems, and implement improvements to system reliability and deployment processes.
- Contribute to technical documentation, architecture proposals, design reviews, and engineering standards, helping establish best practices for cross‑platform Rust development.
Requirements:
- At least 5 years of professional experience developing, shipping, and maintaining production‑grade software using Rust.
- Proven experience building and deploying cross‑platform Rust applications on at least two operating systems among Windows, macOS, and Android,
including experience with at least one mobile platform.
- Strong understanding of operating system internals, process management, permissions, background execution, and platform‑specific constraints.
- Hands‑on experience with FFI and integrating Rust with C/C++ libraries and native operating system APIs, including JNI/NDK, Win32, and POSIX interfaces.
- Solid knowledge of networking protocols, particularly TCP, TLS, and HTTP, with the ability to inspect network traffic, understand protocol‑level behavior, and analyze client fingerprint differences.
- Experience with asynchronous programming and networking in Rust, ideally using technologies such as Tokio and Tonic.
- Strong focus on software reliability, observability, performance monitoring, and production operations, including the ability to measure and troubleshoot distributed device fleets remotely.
- Good understanding of secure software design, particularly when deploying and operating software on third‑party devices and environments.
- Excellent written communication skills and the ability to collaborate effectively within a globally distributed, remote‑first engineering team.
- Strong analytical and problem‑solving abilities, combined with intellectual curiosity and an interest in reverse engineering, networking technologies, and complex systems.
- Familiarity with technologies such as gRPC, Protocol Buffers, mutual TLS (mTLS), Chromium networking, Kotlin, Java, Prometheus, Grafana, OpenTelemetry, Kubernetes, and cloud infrastructure is advantageous.
Nice‑to‑have qualifications:
- Experience developing or operating residential proxy networks, peer‑to‑peer a
