The focus of this PhD position is "Construction Site and Infrastructure Monitoring with 4D Persistent SLAM." SLAM (Simultaneous Localization and Mapping) is a cornerstone technology in robotics,

Project Details
The successful candidate will join the Photogrammetry & Robotics Lab (Stachniss-Lab) under the supervision of Dr. Cyrill Stachniss. The lab is internationally recognized for its pioneering work in robotics, computer vision, and photogrammetry.
It offers a stimulating research environment where team members collaborate on innovative projects, publish in leading conferences and journals, and engage with industry and academic partners.
The PhD position is fully funded (E13, 100% FTE), providing financial stability and support for the duration of the doctoral studies.

Candidate Profile
The Adecuado Applicant For This Position Is a Highly Motivated And Capable Team Player With a Strong Desire To Earn a PhD In Engineering And Work With Mobile Robots.
Candidates Should Have
– An MSc degree in computer science, robotics, geodesy, engineering, or a closely related field, with top grades (1.0 – 1.5 on the German grading scale).
– Demonstrated background in robotics,
computer vision/photogrammetry, or machine learning, evidenced by thesis work, specialization, or advanced coursework.
– Strong coding skills, particularly in C++ and Python.
– Excellent English language proficiency; knowledge of German is not required.
– A proactive mindset, interest in working with real robots and sensors, and willingness to support team activities and teaching.
– Commitment to developing novel solutions, conducting theoretical and practical research, and disseminating results through high-quality publications and open-source contributions.
– Ability to collaborate with external project partners and integrate into the research lab's culture.
