Overview GitHub is growing its Engineering team and is seeking experienced professionals to elevate our software engineering efforts.
As a Staff Manager in Engineering you will lead the Dependency Graph team within Supply Chain Security, working to develop cost-effective, secure technical solutions and ensure system architecture aligns with business goals.
The position focuses on the dependency analysis and management portions of the broader Supply Chain Security mission, collaborating closely with sister teams that drive build integrity, applied cryptography and GitHub Actions security.
Responsibilities Guide teams in creating technical solutions for products and features, ensuring the design is cost-effective and meets security and compliance requirements.
Develop and enforce guidelines for code reviews that adhere to GitHub's quality standards, ensuring code reliability, accuracy and scalability.
Drive project plans, release plans, and work items in coordination with stakeholders to ensure resources are allocated effectively to meet project goals.
Optimize deployments across products and components to meet varying business objectives ensuring solutions are deployed safely and adhere to GitHub's deployment standards.
Act as an expert in live service operations, developing playbooks and processes to resolve complex issues.
Oversee the development and reuse of software developer tools to support code creation, debugging and maintenance.
Lead and manage team performance, driving employee development and ensuring the engineering team's skills remain current by staying abreast of industry developments and sharing knowledge with team members.
Qualifications Required Qualifications: 9+ years' experience in software engineering, computer science, or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software coding in languages including,
but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust or Python; OR associate's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 8+ years' experience in software engineering, computer science or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust or Python; OR bachelor's degree in Computer Science or related field AND 7+ years' experience in software engineering, computer science or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust or Python; OR master's degree in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering, or related field AND 5+ years' experience in software engineering, computer science or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust or Python; OR doctorate in Computer Science, Electrical Engineering, Electronics Engineering, Math, Physics, Computer Engineering or related field AND 3+ years' experience in software engineering,
computer science or related technical discipline with proven experience maintaining and delivering production software coding in languages including, but not limited to, C, C++, C#, Java, JavaScript, Go, Ruby, Rust or Python; OR equivalent experience.
3+ years people management experience Preferred Qualifications: 3+ years experience building cyber security products, especially in vulnerability management, source composition analysis or offensive security.
Strong understanding of contemporary concepts and challenges in dependency management.
Background in successfully shipping on a large service-oriented architecture.
An abiding interest in remaining technical despite being in management; the successful candidate should be writing code regularly and have a keen curiosity and interest in keeping their technical skills sharp.
Compensation Range The base salary range for this job is USD $140,****** – $372,****** /Yr.
These pay ranges are intended to cover roles based across the United States.
An individual's base pay depends on various factors including geographical location and review of experience, knowledge, skills and abilities of the applicant.
