Job Description
The purpose of the Marketing BU is to sustainably maximise cash flows from the marketing of Anglo American products and services. In support of this, we have set ourselves a target to deliver a considerable uplift in Value by 2030.
Purpose
The Base Metals (BM) book is an expanding book given the role BMs will play in a more sustainable future. This should see the team grow the 3rd party supply of the core commodities (i.e. Copper concentrate and related products including Moly and acid) as well as the services we provide our clients.
Key Tasks
Leadership
- Support personal and professional development of direct reports and employees once removed.
- Ensure team fully understands the Physical trading strategies with focus on 3rd party sourcing for Copper and related by-products and how they contribute towards achieving it.
- Foster working relationships and interactions beyond immediate team to maximize commercial synergy and career development opportunities across the Marketing BU.
- Support and work alongside the Head of Copper in shaping the Marketing culture and lead by example to embed the Marketing behaviors as the way we work together as a business.
Sourcing Strategy
- Develop and manage a Sourcing strategy with focusing on the LATAM region as part of the CMT and the AA Marketing strategy aim to strengthen the 3rd party flow and building pipeline for future potential deals.
- Grow, manage and develop a Copper concentrate (including related by-products) commodity 3rd party lead pipeline.
- Develop and implement value propositions for potential 3rd party suppliers.
- Actively participate and co‑lead multi‑player negotiations with commodity producers and other participants of the commodity supply chain (i.e. logistics providers/warehousing companies).
- Actively influence and involve in Chagres strategic initiatives, including Support Chagres scenario analysis,
3rd party sourcing to fit overall global trading strategy.
Sourcing & Sales Book Management and Optimisation (AAMC/AAMP)
- Non‑S&O; purchase of physical products and management of S&O; inherited trade flows.
- Engage in value extraction through Anglo American’s physical positions from a product perspective where customer or supplier ask is concerned.
- Ownership of end‑to‑end deal life cycle.
- Management of book positions, QP risks for the domestic AA marketing Chile book and AA marketing Peru book.
- Supporting the central book team for planning and optimisation.
- Developing and executing domestic sales opportunities for off‑spec material and Alto Norte delivery.
- Supporting the central trading team for the general blending strategy and execution.
Stakeholder and Relationship Development and Management – Internal and External (Americas)
- Owner of relationships with all customers and suppliers in the region.
- Development and maintenance of long‑term relationships with all customers, traders, and producers.
- Provide senior leadership coverage for the region, including relationship building with production and Chagres, JV partners in the region, to support the JV representative.
Risk and Governance
- Deliver the Base Metals Marketing strategy within Marketing’s defined risk and governance framework.
- Complete responsibility and ownership of Front Office contribution to the implementation of any new risk management systems regarding physical commodity transactions.
- Ensure all physical trading transactions are executed within approved limits.
- Ensure working capital levels are within limits for all physical flow.
- Manage the following risk types – counterparty, performance, credit, country, tax, physical product, logistics, funding – in close collaboration with Central Trading Team.
