Job Summary
The purpose of this position is to develop design bases, water balances, flowcharts, P&IDs;, design criteria, equipment sizing, chemical dosing system sizing, operation and control philosophies, and related documents for water treatment projects.
The process engineer will have extensive knowledge in water treatment, including applications such as desalination, contacted water, sanitary water, ultra-pure water, and industrial wastewater.
The Process Engineer will interact and participate in meetings regularly with other Bechtel offices, mainly in Houston and New Delhi.
Interaction and meetings with other offices are conducted in English.
The position is designated as part-time telework per our general telework policy and may require at least three days of in-person attendance per week at the assigned office or project.
Weekly in-person schedules will be determined by the individual and their supervisor, in consultation with functional or project leadership.
Major Responsibilities
Developing deliverables of the discipline with minimal supervision.
Coordinating engineering efforts in assigned areas between the specialty and other engineering groups or disciplines, with the client, suppliers and contractors and among other groups.
When delegated, assuming a technical leadership role over other engineers or subgroups of the project to complete specific tasks.
Preparing or assisting in the preparation of conceptual studies, designs, reports or proposals.
Preparing or assisting in the preparation of cost estimates, quantity calculations and staffing requirements for proposals,
forecasts and change orders.
Reviewing and checking the work of subordinate engineers.
Fostering a working environment that promotes transparency, trust, communication, teamwork, training, innovation and motivation.
Participating in risk, HAZOP, maintainability, constructability workshops.
Education and Experience Requirements
Requires a degree in Chemical Engineering from an accredited college or university with 8 to 12 years of relevant work experience in water treatment, to integrate the Water team of the discipline ERW (Environmental, Regulatory and Water), based in Chile.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Intermediate-advanced English level and proficiency in technical English.
Proficiency in oral and written communication.
Knowledge and/or experience in water treatment technologies and equipment for applications such as desalination, contacted water, sanitary water, ultrapure water, among others.
Knowledge of water chemistry.
Experience in membrane projections using specialized software.
Practical experience in design as a process engineer.
Field experience is valued.
Coordination with other Engineering disciplines and other functions such as project control, procurement, construction, as required.
Able to develop the own deliverables of the discipline and support the deliverables of other engineering disciplines.
Able to produce a well-structured report in which various options are logically evaluated and a recommendation is presented.
Extensive knowledge of the application of engineering to plant constructability, applied to construction methods and materials.
Knowledge of current computer applications for engineering and design.
Understanding of engineering planning and control methods.
Knowledge of the roles played by other departments on projects, including basic construction practices and economics.
Knowledge of industrial or regulatory codes and standards and design criteria relevant to the engineering discipline in question.
