The Role
The post holder will authorise and perform Radiographic examinations, providing direct care and a high quality diagnostic imaging service for the management of patients referred from clinicians and other referrers in NHS Lanarkshire. Service runs 24/7 for 365 days.
In This Key Role, You Will
Imaging examinations use highly dangerous radiations. It is the post holder’s responsibility to minimise radiation dose and risks to patients, staff, relatives, general public and self.
Clinical
- To care for the needs and welfare of every patient.
- Act independently in the assessment of referrals for x‑ray examinations, taking full responsibility for the authorisation of general x‑ray examinations to reduce unnecessary ionising radiation exposure of patients in accordance with IR(ME)R.
- Verbal and written communications are used daily to query incorrect or unnecessary referrals in order to reduce patient dose or suggest a more suitable examination.
Managerial
- Be able to exercise personal responsibility and make decisions in complex and unpredictable circumstances (e.g. imaging in ED and theatre during a multiple trauma situation).
- Be held accountable for all aspects of own work.
- Frequently reassess own workload to provide better utilisation of radiographic resources.
What You'll Bring
- Registered Radiographer with valid HCPC Registration.
- Demonstrate excellent team working skills with the ability to work using own initiative.
- Effective listening, communication and interpersonal skills.
- Ability to work with people and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- A driving licence is required; this must be a full UK/EU/EEA licence.
