Overview
Ward 31 is a 23 bedded, dedicated fracture neck of femur ward and the only ward of its kind in Scotland. It is a busy and forward‑thinking ward within a diverse directorate, working collaboratively across the Orthopaedic Department.
Our patient population is predominantly frail and elderly, with many patients experiencing delirium, dementia and a range of acute medical conditions alongside complex orthopaedic needs. Maintaining a clean, safe and welcoming environment is essential to supporting high‑quality, compassionate and person‑centred care.
Role
The Ward Housekeeper plays a vital role within the ward team, supporting patient care through high standards of cleanliness, infection prevention and control, meal service support and stock management. The role contributes significantly to patient comfort, dignity and safety, particularly for our vulnerable patient group.
Key Responsibilities & Requirements
- Ability to maintain high standards of cleanliness,
hygiene and infection prevention within a ward environment, in line with NHS policies and procedures.
- Knowledge of safe cleaning practices, including the correct use of cleaning equipment, materials and chemicals.
- Experience of working in a healthcare, care or similar environment would be desirable.
- Good organisational skills with the ability to prioritise tasks and manage time effectively in a busy ward setting.
- Ability to work both independently and as part of a multidisciplinary team.
- Good communication skills to liaise effectively with nursing staff, patients and visitors.
- Understanding of health and safety requirements, including manual handling and COSHH.
- Reliable, adaptable and able to adapt to changing ward needs.
