Role Overview
We have an exciting opportunity for an efficient and motivated individual to play a pivotal role within the management team. The successful candidate will provide visible, accessible leadership, support, guidance, and supervision to a team of secretarial, administrative, and clerical staff within the Surgical Directorate. They will be responsible for the day‑to‑day smooth operations of services, ensuring appropriate planning, coaching, mentoring, and performance management of over 100 secretarial and admin staff.
Responsibilities
- Provide visible, accessible leadership and supervision to a large secretarial and administrative team.
- Ensure smooth day‑to‑day operations of services within the Surgical Directorate.
- Plan, coach, mentor, and conduct performance management for staff.
- Implement and monitor HR policies, including absence management and NHS waiting time processes.
- Develop and maintain effective working relationships across multiple sites.
- Travel between sites as required.
Qualifications
- Previous administrative or secretarial and supervisory experience.
- Excellent communication, organisational, and problem‑solving skills.
- Familiarity with NHS waiting times and relevant HR policies and procedures.
- Strong leadership skills, ability to work under pressure and deadlines.
- Assertive yet diplomatic, adaptable and able to work autonomously or as part of a team.
- English language competency sufficient for safe and effective performance.
Additional Requirements
- Must become a member of the Protection of Vulnerable Groups (PVG) Scheme prior to appointment.
- Must have the right to work in the United Kingdom.
