Project Overview
Located 800 km northeast of Lima, Peru, Yanacocha is South America's largest gold mine.
The Yanacocha Water Treatment Plant (WTP) project consists of two of the largest acid water treatment plants in South America: the West plant with a capacity of 3,000 m3/hour and the East plant with 2,700 m3/hour.
Early works are currently being performed on site, preparing permanent platforms and laydown areas for the East and West plants.
Job Summary
In this role, reporting within the Project Controls organization, you will be responsible for carrying out cost engineering, analysis, control and monitoring activities associated with the project backcharges program.
The position will support the identification, registration, valuation, documentation, reconciliation, forecast and reporting of recoverable costs caused by performance deficiencies, non‐compliances, corrections, work performed on behalf of third parties or other events attributable to contractors, subcontractors, suppliers or other responsible parties.
Major Responsibilities
Executing cost engineering and cost control activities related to the backcharges program, in accordance with project procedures, contractual requirements and Project Controls practices.
Supporting the identification, registration and monitoring of potential backcharges, in coordination with Construction, Field Engineering, Contracts, Procurement, Accounting/Finance and other responsible areas.
Maintaining and updating the backcharge log or equivalent record, ensuring traceability of the backcharge number, status, responsible party, cost code, estimated amount, accumulated amount, approved amount, pending documentation, key dates and required actions.
Preparing or supporting the preparation of estimates, rough order of magnitude estimates, valuations and impact analysis of costs associated with backcharges, including labor, equipment, materials, services, applicable indirect costs and other required cost components.
Reviewing, organizing and consolidating the necessary supporting documentation to support each backcharge, including field reports, daily reports, timesheets, equipment records, materials, communications, photographs, work orders, invoices, contractual documentation and other relevant evidence.
Coordinating with Contracts, Procurement and technical areas the review of contractual applicability, causality, scope, documentary support and reasonableness of costs,



maintaining the role of Project Controls focused on analysis, registration, control, forecast and cost reporting.
Ensuring that the costs associated with backcharges are correctly coded, recorded and reported in the project cost control structure, including cost codes, commitments, actuals, accruals, forecast/EAC and monthly closing reconciliations, as appropriate.
Preparing variance analyses, reconciliations, periodic reports, executive summaries and status presentations on backcharges, highlighting recoverable amounts, accumulated costs, recovery risks, critical pending and required actions.
Coordinating with Accounting/Finance the necessary information to support billing, recovery or cost reversal processes, as appropriate and in accordance with project procedures.
Supporting the preparation of support packages for internal reviews, approvals, discussions with contractors/suppliers or cost recovery processes.
Identifying deviations, inconsistencies, duplicities, unsubstantiated costs or documentary gaps that may affect cost recovery, recommending timely corrective actions.
Maintaining effective communication with project disciplines to ensure that cost, technical support and backcharge status information is complete, accurate and timely, and proposing improvements to the backcharge management process.
Education and Experience Requirements
Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Construction, Management, Finance, Accounting or a related discipline, or equivalent work experience.
Typically 8 to 10 years of relevant experience in Project Controls, Cost Engineering, Cost Control, Construction Management, Contracts Administration or related functions; or 12 to 14 years of relevant work experience if no university degree.
Required Knowledge and Skills
Solid knowledge of Project Controls, Cost Engineering and Cost Control principles, including budget, commitments, actuals, accruals, forecast, EAC, variances, reconciliations and cost reporting.
Experience or practical knowledge in backcharge programs, cost recovery, chargebacks and equivalent contractual recovery mechanisms.




Ability to analyze direct and indirect costs, including labor, equipment, materials, services, rates, labor hours, quantities, accumulated and estimated costs.
Understanding of the integration between backcharges, account codes, cost accounts, commitments, actuals, forecast/EAC, monthly close processes and project financial reporting.
Capability to review contractual documentation, purchase orders, subcontracts, scopes of work, commercial terms and correspondence related to contractor, subcontractor or supplier responsibilities, in coordination with Contracts.
Skill in reviewing, organizing and validating supporting documentation, maintaining clear traceability among event, cause, responsible party, scope, valued cost, supporting documentation and recovery status.
Analytical capability to identify deviations, inconsistencies, duplicities, unsupported costs, recovery risks and improvement opportunities.
Strong communication skills in Spanish; intermediate or advanced English desirable for reviewing contractual documents and project communications.
Proficiency with cost control and reporting tools such as EcoSys, SAP, Power BI, advanced Microsoft Excel or equivalent.
High level of organization, attention to detail, professional judgment, integrity, confidentiality and results orientation.
