The company currently manages 5.5 GW of installed capacity across multiple technologies and asset classes, with an additional 800 MW of renewables under construction and nearly 12.6 GW under development.
Job Summary
We are seeking a highly motivated and skilled Electrical Engineer with expertise in HV, MV and LV systems to join our Engineering team.
The role reports to the Engineering Director and will oversee the design, development, and implementation of High Voltage (HV), Medium Voltage (MV), and Low Voltage (LV) electrical infrastructure for utility‐scale renewable energy projects, including Solar PV farms, Wind parks, and Battery Energy Storage Systems (BESS).
This role requires technical proficiency throughout the entire project lifecycle, from feasibility studies and design to construction and commissioning phases.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering – Lead the electrical design for large‐scale renewable projects, focusing on HV, MV, and LV systems, substations, and grid interconnections.
Project Lifecycle Involvement – Define the technical specification of electrical system design activities across all project stages: feasibility studies, preliminary engineering, construction, and commissioning.
Technical Documentation – Develop, review, and optimize technical documentation, including single‐line diagrams (SLDs), wiring schematics, equipment specifications, layouts, and Bill of Materials (BoMs).
Calculations & Analysis – Perform detailed engineering calculations, including load flow analysis, voltage drop, short‐circuit studies, protection coordination,
and arc‐flash analysis using relevant software (e.g., ETAP, PowerFactory, AutoCAD Electrical).
Compliance & Standards – Ensure all designs and installations comply with local electrical codes, safety standards, and utility interconnection requirements (e.g., IEC standards, specific TSO/DSO codes).
Procurement & Vendor Management – Prepare technical specifications for equipment purchase orders and support the procurement team in technical evaluations and negotiations with suppliers and EPC contractors.
Construction & Commissioning Support – Provide on‐site technical support during construction, installation, testing (FAT/SAT), and commissioning phases to troubleshoot issues and ensure the final build meets design specifications.
Inter‐departmental Collaboration – Coordinate effectively with cross‐functional teams including civil, structural, mechanical, I&C;/SCADA engineers, and project managers to ensure seamless project delivery.
Contractor Oversight – Manage and supervise the design and engineering activities performed by external contractors.
Technical Compliance & Review
Control and specify electrical technical requirements.
Support the review of electrical drawings and technical specifications to ensure compliance with relevant regulations.
Monitor and review technical documents issued by EPC suppliers/contractors.
Cost Estimation – Knowledge of market and estimate budgetary estimation for Capex and Opex definition relevant to the electrical system of renewable plants.
Quality Assurance – Ensure all designs comply with international standards and adhere to engineering best practices.
Qualifications and Skills
Education – Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or Heavy Current specialization preferred).
Experience – Minimum of 10 years of experience in electrical engineering within the power generation industry, with significant experience in utility‐scale renewable energy projects (PV, Wind, BESS).
Technical Expertise
In‐depth knowledge of HV, MV, and LV equipment including transformers, switchgear, protection relays, cabling, and inverters/converters.
Strong understanding of grid integration processes and grid code compliance requirements.
Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software (e.g., AutoCAD, ETAP, PVSyst).
Familiarity with Chilean electrical regulations and international standards.
Skills – Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent communication abilities (written and verbal).
Language – Fluency in English is required.
Travel – Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
What Drives Your Application Forward
A master's degree in Sustainable Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, or similar is highly valued.
Demonstrated experience integrating storage systems with renewable assets.
Ability to lead technical discussions with international suppliers, clients, and partners.
ContourGlobal provides equal employment opportunities and maintains a diverse workforce that reflects the rich environment of our society and the markets in which we operate.
