Job Summary
Santiago, Chile / Hybrid.
Senior Electrical Engineer – responsible for design, development, and implementation of HV, MV, and LV electrical infrastructure across utility‐scale renewable projects (Solar PV, Wind, BESS).
Reports to Engineering Director and engages throughout the entire project lifecycle from feasibility to commissioning.
Key Responsibilities
Design & Engineering – lead electrical design for large‐scale renewable projects, focusing on HV, MV, LV systems, substations, and grid interconnections.
Project Lifecycle Involvement – define the Technical Specification of Electrical system design across all project stages: feasibility studies, preliminary engineering, construction, and commissioning.
Technical Documentation – develop, review, and optimize technical documents: single‐line diagrams (SLDs), wiring schematics, equipment specifications, layouts, and Bill of Materials (BoMs).
Calculations & Analysis – perform detailed engineering calculations (load flow, voltage drop, short circuit studies, protection coordination, arc flash analysis) using software such as ETAP, PowerFactory, AutoCAD Electrical.
Compliance & Standards – ensure designs and installations comply with local codes, safety standards, and utility interconnection requirements (IEC, TSO/DSO).
Procurement & Vendor Management – prepare technical specifications for purchase orders and support procurement in vendor evaluation and negotiations.
Construction & Commissioning Support – provide on‐site technical support during construction, installation, testing (FAT/SAT), and commissioning, troubleshooting issues to meet design specifications.
Inter‐departmental Collaboration – coordinate with civil, structural, mechanical, I&C;/SCADA engineers, and project managers for seamless delivery.
Contractor Oversight – manage and supervise designs performed by external contractors.
Technical Compliance & Review
Control and specify electrical technical requirements.
Support review of electrical drawings and specifications for regulatory compliance.
Monitor and review technical documents issued by EPC suppliers/contractors.
Cost Estimation – knowledge of market and budget estimation for Capex and Opex relevant to the electrical system of renewable plants.
Quality Assurance – ensure all designs meet international standards and engineering best practices.
Qualifications and Skills
Education: Bachelor's or Master's degree in Electrical Engineering (Power Systems or Heavy Current specialization preferred).
Experience: Minimum of 10 years in electrical engineering within the power generation industry, with significant utility‐scale renewable experience (PV, Wind, BESS).
Technical Expertise:
In‐depth knowledge of HV, MV, and LV equipment (transformers, switchgear, protection relays, cabling, inverters/converters).
Strong understanding of grid integration processes and grid code compliance.
Proficiency in electrical design and simulation software (AutoCAD, ETAP, PVSyst).
Familiarity with Chilean electrical regulations and international standards.
Strong analytical and problem‐solving skills, attention to detail, and excellent written and verbal communication.
Fluency in English required.
Willingness to travel to project sites as needed.
Preferred Qualifications
Master's degree in Sustainable Energy Systems, Electrical Engineering, or similar highly valued.
Experience integrating storage systems with renewable assets.
Ability to lead technical discussions with international suppliers, clients, and partners.
