Public Dental Officer – Isle of Barra
Salary: PDO £54,117 – £81,174 pro rata; plus Distant Islands Allowance £1,406 pro rata.
30 hours per week, permanent post.
A generous relocation package of up to £8,000 is available.
The successful candidate will be based in the Isle of Barra and may provide care at additional locations depending on clinical commitment and skill set.
Travel between institutes and accommodation for visits will be supported, and away‐from‐base expenses will be covered.
Responsibilities
Provide dental care for priority group patients, particularly children and adults requiring additional support.
Deliver treatment in static clinical settings, care homes and domiciliary (home‐based) environments.
Perform a range of dental procedures within sometimes‐challenging environments to patients with complex needs.
Work within well‐equipped surgeries, including the newly opened Uist and Barra Hospital Dental Hub.




Engage in professional development through multidisciplinary patient interactions, training support, peer review and collaboration with experienced colleagues.
Qualifications
Clinical skills and competency necessary to deliver a wide range of dental treatments.
Registration with the PVG Scheme (Protecting Vulnerable Groups Scheme) is required.
Benefits & Pay
Daily allowances: Distant Islands Allowance £1,461 pro rata.
Remote Areas Allowance: £4,500 pro rata for years 1‐3; £9,000 pro rata for years 3+.
Recruitment and Retention Allowance of £25,000 paid over 2 years (subject to eligibility).
Out of Hours Allowance and on‐call payment for on‐call duties.
Up to 33 days annual leave per annum plus 8 public holidays (dependent on NHS service).
